Attic Expansion

Quincy | MA

Original to the home, this beautiful 1920’s farmhouse includes a walk-up attic. The family has been using the attic purely for storage, but with a growing family, they decided to add additional bedrooms and a bathroom, while maintaining a space for storage.

The attic ceilings are pitched following the slope of the roof. The slope creates a challenge at the stair, creating difficulties in storing larger items and reduced headroom.

Working closely with the family to create a program, the design evolved into a completely functional third floor space. Understanding how they plan to use the space daily, working through even the smallest details, and listening to their concerns makes the design most effective for what they want. This addition will be enjoyed for years to come while adding value to their home and their life.
