"Open" Concept

Hanover | MA

After an unfortunate turn of events, the original 1970 kitchen design was damaged, not-salvageable and needed to be replaced. The original kitchen showed its age given the minimal storage, built-in place cabinets, and plastic laminate countertops.

Ever notice that when having a party or gathering or even just day to day, everyone congregates in the kitchen? The kitchen is the core gathering space of almost every family and should be designed to reflect that. The existing kitchen did not have a natural light source making the kitchen extremely dark and uninviting. This needed to be addressed.

After rounds of discussions and design options it was clear, defining an open concept kitchen layout was important. Creating a spacial arrangement while providing a visual separation from each unique function was the primary objective. The wall separating the kitchen, dining and living room was removed, allowing for supporting columns to define each individual space. Although the columns are supporting the roof framing above, they were designed into the kitchen layout anchoring a large peninsula. Additional details include leathered granite countertops, 3x12 tile backsplash, hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, and crown moulding.
