Sometimes a family needs additional living space, but a traditional addition may be a bigger project than a family is able to undertake. A more economical approach may be a basement renovation.

Most homes utilize lally columns to support a main beam which spans through the center of the home. These columns are found in the basement and support the floors and walls above. Unfortunately, these columns can be costly to remove; it is a more cost effective solution to build the columns into the design of the basement. In this project, the lally columns were either built into the walls or designed as a decorative column.

The scope of the project includes the following:

• Visual connection to the first floor; use of glass doors and open stair risers

• Wet bar for adult entertaining

• Half bathroom

• Home gym

• Family room with craft or play area for the children

• Home Office

• Additional 1,000 sf of living space
